The Bands of America Championship in McAllen is an annual event showcasing the best high school marching bands in the state of Texas and around the country. The South Texas Regional is a unique opportunity to give students, teachers, fans and spectators a life - a positively changing experience. On Saturday, March 11, 2016, over 1,000 dedicated high schools and marching band members from across Texas will gather at the University of North Texas to compete for a $1.5 million prize pool for the Texas High School Marching Band Championship 2016-17, presented by Yamaha. This event includes a full day of music, dance, music education, competition, entertainment, food, drinks and much more.

Henry Castillo is a saxophonist in the Noe Pro Band and has played in McAllen for over 20 years, most recently as a member of the U.S. Army Band. Victor has been playing the trumpet for 21 years and enjoys playing with his brother Joe and other local musicians. He has also performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Texas Symphony and Dallas Symphony.

James is an extremely talented pianist and continues to enjoy playing with his brother Joe and other local musicians. Jim plays guitar and sings, specializing in dance music shows, and is a member of the U.S. Army Band, Texas Symphony Orchestra and Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

After high school, John Henry attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville, where he earned his Bachelor of Music and continued to play in several local bands. He began playing the piano at a young age and pursued his musical career by studying at the University of Texas at Pan American, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. After graduating in 1986, she attended the U.S. Army Band, the Texas Symphony Orchestra and the Texas State Orchestra. She then continued her musical career in the US Army before attending Texas A & M University in Kings Valley, where she received her Bachelor's degree in music.

In 1985 he began working for the state of Texas and shortly after received an invitation to play drums in Noe Pro and his band. He was playing in one of the best bands in town at the time, and Rusty Bell continues to promote the band, as does a KIRO DJ.

All three bars hit the right notes to feed the crowds from near and far, and jamming to live music is a great way to spend a night on the town. The cast are all so talented that you'll likely see these kinds of events all over the McAllen region. They are able to build a fan base with a relaxed vibe and a good mix of old and new music.

The citywide festival has entered the local creative ecosystem, and every year a McAllen Valley band comes along to come up with something. They have yet to go on a national tour, but their audience is expanding beyond South Texas and they are able to play to people who have never heard of them and take them to places they should have been playing.
